D'Arce Choke

Submission · Turtle

An arm-in blood choke from the front headlock: your arm closes one side of the neck and his own trapped shoulder the other. The moment is when his near arm reaches or pulls free. Thread your arm under that arm and across the front of his neck, deep, until the wrist is past the far side and your shoulder touches his. Bring the other arm over the back of his neck and clasp hands or grab your biceps. Keep your hips low in the sprawl and walk toward the trapped-arm side to close the angle, then pinch your elbows and drive your shoulder into his arm. A shallow arm closes on the jaw, not the neck. If he pulls the arm out, switch to the guillotine. Squeeze gradually.

How to do it

  1. From the front headlock, as their near arm reaches, thread your arm under their near arm and across the front of their neck.
  2. Feed it deep, until your wrist comes out past the far side of the neck and your shoulder touches theirs: their near arm is now trapped beside their head.
  3. Bring your other arm over the back of their neck and clasp your hands, or grab the biceps of that arm with your choking hand.
  4. Keep your hips low in the sprawl and walk your body toward the trapped arm side: this closes the angle and takes the slack out of the lock.
  5. Squeeze: pinch your elbows together and drive your shoulder into their trapped arm so it presses into their neck.
  6. If they still hold out, drop onto your side with the lock closed and keep squeezing until the tap.

Key details

  • The arm goes deep, the wrist past the far side of the neck: only then does the loop close around the neck instead of the jaw or head.
  • Walk toward the trapped arm to tighten: your body angle pulls the arm and the neck together inside the loop.
  • Your shoulder presses their arm into their neck: their own shoulder closes one side of the neck, your arm the other.
  • Hips low in the sprawl: high hips let them drive into you, take your weight off and pull the head out.
  • Point the choking elbow and dig the blade of the wrist into the side of the neck; do not roll over onto your elbow, it takes the power out of the squeeze.

Common mistakes

  • A shallow arm, the wrist stopping under the throat. — A shallow arm does not reach around the neck, so there is no pressure. — Feed the arm until your shoulder touches theirs.
  • Staying square in front of them. — There is no angle, the loop stays wide and the choke stays loose. — Walk your body toward the trapped arm to close the angle.
  • Hands not clasped. — Unclasped hands slide apart as soon as you squeeze. — Clasp the hands or grab your biceps before you squeeze.

If they defend

  • They roll toward you. → Roll with them and finish on your side.

How to drill it
