Back Take from 50-50

Transition · Leg Locks

A transition from 50-50 to back control: when he turns away from you, you keep his leg trapped and climb his back instead of chasing the heel. It works when he turns onto his side or belly to free his heel or posts to stand, which is how backside 50-50 usually starts. Keep your knees pinched on his thigh so the leg cannot slide out, sit up behind him and grab his belt line or far hip, then walk your hands and chest up his back. Bring your top leg over as the first hook while the bottom leg still controls his trapped leg, then reach the seatbelt. The key detail is to follow his turn while the leg is still held: let go of the leg early and he turns back to face you. The common error is falling back for the heel hook every time he turns and missing the open back.

How to do it

  1. Keep your knees pinched on his thigh as he turns away, so the trapped leg cannot slide out.
  2. Sit up behind him and grab his belt line or far hip.
  3. Walk your hands and chest up his back, keeping your weight on him.
  4. Bring your top leg over as the first hook while the bottom leg still controls his trapped leg.
  5. Reach the seatbelt grip, then free the bottom leg for the second hook or a body triangle.

Key details

  • Follow his turn while the leg is still trapped.
  • Chest on his back before you look for the hooks.
  • The trapped leg is your anchor: release it only when the first hook is in.

Common mistakes

  • Letting go of the leg too early. — He turns back to face you. — Keep the knees pinched until the first hook is in.
  • Falling back for the heel every time he turns. — You miss the open back and the leg often slips out. — Read his hips: rising hips mean the back.
  • Staying low behind his hips. — He stands up and shakes you off. — Climb with your chest up his back.

How to drill it

From 50-50 the partner turns away to stand, you climb to the back, 6 each side.
