Backside 50-50

Position · Leg Locks

A 50-50 where he has turned away from you, onto his side or belly, showing his back side; the legs are still entangled and his heel is close to your hands. Keep your outside leg over his hip and your knees pinched on his thigh so the knee line stays trapped while he turns, and follow his rotation instead of letting the leg slide out. If he turns away with the heel exposed, cup it for the Inside Heel Hook. He usually turns to free his heel or to come up, and the entanglement is still mutual, so keep your own heel hidden. Rotate slowly here: he is already twisting his knee, so the lock can injure before he feels it.

How to do it

  1. In 50-50 they turn away to escape, showing you their back side.
  2. Keep your legs triangled around their thigh through the whole turn, so the leg cannot slip out.
  3. Follow them so your chest stays behind their leg, pulling your hips close so they cannot scoot away.
  4. Control the knee first: keep it pinned in your triangle before you reach for the foot.
  5. The heel is now exposed on your side: control it, hugging the foot to your chest so they cannot turn back and hide it.

Key details

  • Their turn exposes the heel.
  • Keep the triangle through the turn: the moment it opens, the knee slides out and they stand.
  • Stay close behind them: distance lets them scoot away and turn back.

Common mistakes

  • Opening the triangle as they turn. — The leg slips out and they stand. — Keep the legs locked.
  • Chasing the heel too fast. — You lose position and they turn back. — Control the knee, then the heel.
  • Staying far from them. — They scoot away and escape. — Pull your hips close.

If they defend

  • They turn back to face you. → Back to 50-50 and attack again.
  • They crawl away. → Take the back.

How to drill it

50-50 to backside 50-50 as the partner turns, 8 reps each side, no finishing.

Safety

Heel hooks here are fast and dangerous: slow application only.
