Spiderweb Armbar from Turtle

Submission · Turtle

An armbar from top turtle: you roll him over your body onto his back and land in the spiderweb, his arm between your legs, one leg over his chest and the other over his head. The moment is when he wraps your near leg with his arm. Clamp that arm to your chest with both arms, above the elbow. Sit to your hip by his head and roll back, kicking your leg up and over, so the trapped arm pulls him over your body onto his back. Land perpendicular to him with your legs over his chest and head and knees pinched on the arm. Then break his grip, keep the thumb up and lift your hips slowly. If you let the arm go during the roll, he stays on his knees. If he turns to his knees in the spiderweb, follow him to the belly-down armbar.

How to do it

  1. At the side of the turtle, when he hugs your near leg, clamp that arm to your chest with both arms above the elbow.
  2. Sit to your hip by his head.
  3. Roll back, kicking your leg up and over, so the trapped arm pulls him over your body onto his back.
  4. Land perpendicular to him: one leg over his chest, the other over his head, knees pinched on the arm.
  5. Break his grip, keep his thumb up and lift your hips slowly to finish.

Key details

  • Never let go of the arm during the roll: it is what brings him over.
  • Pinch your knees in the spiderweb so the arm cannot turn out.
  • Finish slowly, hips up and thumb up.

Common mistakes

  • Rolling with a loose clamp. — The arm slips and he stays on his knees. — Clamp above the elbow with both arms.
  • Rolling too far from his head. — He does not come over. — Sit to your hip right by his head.
  • Jerking the arm at the end. — The elbow can be injured before he can tap. — Lift the hips slowly.

How to drill it

Partner in turtle hugs your leg: 5 slow rolls to the spiderweb each side, no finish.

Safety

Armbar: lift the hips slowly and release at the tap; roll over the shoulder, not the head.
