Crucifix Choke

Submission · Turtle

A forearm choke from the crucifix, where both of his arms are tied up and nothing is left to defend the neck. You are at the side of the turtle in the crucifix: his near arm (the one on your side of the turtle) locked between your legs, his far arm held by your arm. When he turns away from you, stay behind his shoulder, not over his head, slide your free forearm across his throat under the chin, not on the jaw, and pull the elbow back toward you. The detail that decides it is the leg lock on the trapped arm: one free hand is enough for him to peel the choke off. If he hides the neck, switch to the crucifix armlock; if he rolls toward you, settle the crucifix again. Squeeze slowly and agree on a verbal tap.

How to do it

  1. In the crucifix, keep their near arm (the one on your side of the turtle) trapped between your legs, the legs locked figure-four on the arm so it cannot slide out.
  2. Hold their far arm with your arm so both arms are tied and neither hand can reach their neck.
  3. Settle the position first: stay behind their shoulder, not over their head, so they cannot roll out before you choke.
  4. When they turn away from you, slide your free arm under their chin, the forearm across the throat, not on the jaw.
  5. Pull the elbow of the choking arm back toward you and squeeze: with both arms tied, they cannot pull your arm off the neck.

Key details

  • The crucifix takes both arms away: the neck is open and they have nothing to defend it with.
  • Keep the legs tight on the trapped arm: one free arm is enough for them to block the choke.
  • Stay behind their shoulder, not over their head: from behind the shoulder you keep them on their side, over the head they roll out.
  • It is a short forearm choke, not a rear naked squeeze: grab the top of his shoulder and pull your elbow back toward your lap.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the arm out of your legs. — They use it to block the choke. — Lock the legs figure-four on the arm.
  • Rushing the choke. — They roll out before you are set. — Settle the crucifix first, then choke.
  • Forearm on the jaw. — It cranks the jaw and does not choke. — Slide the arm under the chin first, then pull the elbow back.

How to drill it

Crucifix entries from turtle, 8 reps; finish the choke only on the last 3.

Safety

The opponent cannot defend with their arms: squeeze slowly and watch for a verbal tap.
