Cement Mixer
Transition · Turtle
Sink a half nelson, grab the far arm, and roll over your back so they turn with you onto their back, and land on top.
How to do it
- With them flattened, slide your arm under their near arm and put your hand on the back of their neck: a half nelson.
- With your other hand, grab their far arm at the wrist or elbow, so they cannot post it to come back up.
- Tuck your head and roll over your back across their head, keeping both grips.
- The half nelson pushes their head around and the far-arm grip takes the post away, so they turn onto their back with you, their arm trapped.
- Keep turning onto your belly, chest down on their chest, and settle into side control.
Key details
- The half nelson turns the head, the far arm takes the post away: with neither, their body has nothing to stop the roll.
- Roll across their head, not across their hips: the body follows the head.
- Finish the roll on top, not under: the move is a turnover, and it only scores once you are on their chest.
Common mistakes
- Cranking the neck with the half nelson. — It is painful but does not turn them; it is also illegal in many rules. — Push the head to turn it, do not crank.
- Letting go of the far arm. — They post it and stop the roll. — Hold the far arm through the whole roll.
- Stopping on your back. — They finish the roll and land on top of you. — Keep turning onto your belly.
How to drill it
Slow cement mixers from a flattened partner, 5 each side; then combine spiral ride into cement mixer, 5 chains.
Safety
Push the head, never crank the neck. Roll slowly the first times so the partner learns to turn with you.
