Armbar from KOB

Chain finish · Side Control

An elbow lock: the straight arm is bent backward over your hips. From knee-on-belly the moment comes when he pushes your knee with a straight arm to relieve the pressure; that push hands you the arm. Trap it straight against your chest and jam your elbow into his side so his body turns at an angle and he cannot turn in. Keep the knee on him until your leg steps over his head, then sit down close, hips against his shoulder, the arm hugged. Pinch your knees, thumb up, and lift the hips into the elbow. Catch the arm at the instant of the push; a moment later it is bent and back on his chest. If he bends it, switch to the kimura. Sit down with control.

How to do it

  1. From knee-on-belly, keep pressure and wait for them to push your knee with a straight arm to relieve it. Their push is the opening; do not chase the arm before they offer it.
  2. Trap the pushing arm the moment it extends, hugging it to your chest. Jam your elbow into their side as you trap it, so their body turns at an angle and the arm stays straight.
  3. Step your leg over their head, keeping your knee on their body until the leg is over.
  4. Sit down close, your hips against their shoulder, step by step and with the arm hugged to your chest. A controlled sit keeps the arm from sliding out as you land.
  5. Pinch your knees on the arm and extend it, then lift your hips into the elbow. The elbow bends backward over your hips and they tap.

Key details

  • Their push gives you the arm. When they push your knee, the arm is already straight and away from their chest.
  • Sit close with your hips against their shoulder. No gap at the shoulder means the arm cannot slip out.
  • Catch the arm at the moment of the push. A moment later it is bent and back on their chest.
  • Jam your elbow into their side as you trap the arm so their body turns at an angle. On that angle they cannot turn in to you and hide the elbow.

Common mistakes

  • Sitting far from the shoulder. — Far from the shoulder the arm slips out while you are falling back. — Sit close, your hips against their shoulder.
  • Grabbing the arm too late. — A moment later the arm is back on their chest and hidden. — Catch the arm the moment they push, while it is straight.
  • Falling back uncontrolled. — A fast fall opens space, and the arm comes out as you land. — Sit down step by step, keeping the arm hugged to your chest.

If they defend

  • They turn in. → Keep the arm and finish from the side.

How to drill it
