Mounted Guillotine
Submission · Mount
A front choke: the bony blade of your wrist rises into his throat while his head is trapped in your arm. It comes from the arm triangle in mount when he pulls his arm out from between your head and his neck; that escape leaves his neck alone inside your arm. Keep the arm around the neck and switch the grip under the chin so the head never leaves, setting the wrist blade on the throat, not the jaw. Stay in mount with your hips low so his bridge cannot lift you, then stay heavy and crunch your body to the side, walking the hand across, so the wrist rises into the throat. On the jaw it only cranks the neck. If he turns to his side, take the back; if he defends with both hands, the armbar from mount. Squeeze gradually.
How to do it
- From the arm triangle, feel them pull the arm out from between your head and their neck.
- Keep your arm around the neck and switch the grip under the chin, so the head never leaves your arm.
- Set the wrist blade under the chin, aimed at the throat, not the jaw.
- Stay in mount with your hips low, your weight on their body.
- Finish with a side crunch: stomach heavy on his head, walk your hand across and curl your body to the side so the wrist blade rises into the throat. If he hugs your hips and you cannot turn, put your forehead on the mat and drive the forearm over his collarbone into the neck.
Key details
- Their escape from the arm triangle gives you the neck: when the arm leaves, the neck is alone inside your arm.
- Keep your hips low in mount, so their bridge cannot lift you.
- The wrist blade goes under the chin, into the throat; on the jaw it only cranks.
- Get the wrapping hand as deep as you can, up toward your own chest, before you squeeze: a shallow grip slips onto the jaw.
Common mistakes
- Letting go of the neck while switching grips. — The head slips out and they escape both chokes. — Keep the arm wrapped as you switch grips.
- Hips high. — With your hips high their bridge lifts you and throws you off. — Drop the hips onto their body.
- Cranking the neck. — It hurts but does not choke. — Aim the wrist at the throat, not the jaw.
- Arching back and pushing away to squeeze. — Extending opens the space under you, he bridges, and the wrist slides off the throat. — Stay low and crunch to the side, pushing his head down into your body.
