Takedown · Judo Throws
A counter to his uchi mata from the grip fight standing to side control: you let his leg swing through empty space and throw him with his own rotation. Feel the entry early, as his hips turn in and the leg starts up between yours. Take the attacked leg out of the way, drawing it back and across toward your other leg and turning your hips slightly away, so his thigh lifts nothing; do not jump high. At the same moment keep his rotation going with your hands: the sleeve hand pulls around and down in the direction he was throwing, the lapel hand turns his shoulders over. Standing on one leg with his weight committed forward, he falls over onto his back. The details are timing and the hands: slip too early and he stops, slip without turning him and he just puts the leg down. Stiffening or bending over his back only helps his throw. If he hops and keeps his back to you, tani otoshi; if he falls onto his hands and knees, take the back. On your own uchi mata the same slip is his counter: the answer is ouchi gari.
The partner does slow uchi mata entries; you slip the leg and turn them, 3 x 8. Throws at full speed only on crash mats.
The partner is thrown off one leg with momentum: keep the sleeve so they land on the back, not the head or shoulder.
