Rolling Back Take
Transition · Turtle
Take a seatbelt from the side, sit your hook in and roll over your shoulder, taking them with you so you land with both hooks on the back.
How to do it
- Take a seatbelt from the side of the turtle: one arm over the shoulder, the other under the arm, hands clasped on their chest, your chest tight on their back.
- Put your near hook in: your near foot goes inside their near thigh, heel pulling back.
- Tuck your chin and roll over your near shoulder, shoulder to the mat, not over your head.
- Pull them with the seatbelt and the hook so they roll on top of you, their back on your chest.
- As they land, put the second hook inside their other thigh: back control.
Key details
- Seatbelt tight: you roll together, and their upper body cannot separate from your chest.
- Roll over your shoulder, not your head: the shoulder roll is safe for the neck and keeps you close to them.
- Second hook right after the roll: until it is in, they can still turn to face you.
- Go for the neck during the roll: as he lands he defends the choke with his hands, and that gives you the second hook.
Common mistakes
- Rolling alone with a loose seatbelt. — They stay on their knees and you end up alone on your back. — Tight seatbelt and the hook in before the roll.
- Rolling over the head. — Rolling over the head strains the neck and lets the seatbelt open. — Chin tucked, shoulder to the mat.
- A late second hook. — Without the second hook they turn to face you. — Hook in as they land.
