Reverse Triangle

Submission · Turtle

A leg triangle locked from behind the head: one of his arms is inside your legs, and his own shoulder and your thigh close the neck from both sides. The moment is at the side of the turtle, chest on his back, when his near arm reaches back for your leg. Put your leg over his back and under that reaching arm, bring the other leg over the back of his head and lock the triangle deep, foot behind your knee. Lock before you roll, then roll onto your side so he comes onto his back, where he cannot post. Squeeze the knees and pull the head in. An open triangle comes apart in the roll. If he pulls the arm back out, take the back. Legs choke fast: squeeze slowly and do not crank the neck if the arm slips out.

How to do it

  1. From the side of the turtle, keep your chest on their back and wait for their near arm to reach back for your leg.
  2. Put your leg over their back and slide it under the reaching arm.
  3. Bring the other leg over the back of their head and lock the triangle, pulling your foot deep into the back of your other knee, so one arm is inside the legs and one outside.
  4. With the triangle locked, roll to your side so they roll with you onto their back.
  5. Squeeze your knees together and pull their head in to finish: their own shoulder inside the triangle presses one side of the neck, your thigh the other.

Key details

  • One arm in, one arm out, as in every triangle: the arm inside closes one side of the neck.
  • The roll puts them on their back: there they cannot post, and the choke is tightest.
  • Lock before you roll: an open triangle comes apart in the roll.
  • Cut the angle before you lock: turn so both lower legs point the same way and only his head and shoulder are inside the figure-four, not his back. It is his own shoulder pressed into the neck that chokes.

Common mistakes

  • Both arms outside the legs. — It is only a neck crank: no choke. — Trap one arm inside the triangle.
  • Squeezing without the roll. — From the turtle they can post and stand. — Roll them to their back first, then squeeze.
  • A loose lock. — The loop is wide and they pull the head out. — Pull your foot deep into the back of the knee.

If they defend

  • They stand up with you on them. → Keep the lock and sit them down, or switch to an armbar.

How to drill it

Partner in turtle reaches back on a signal; you lock the reverse triangle and roll, 5 each side, slowly.

Safety

Legs choke fast: squeeze slowly and let go at the tap. Do not crank the neck when the arm is outside.
