Anaconda Choke
Submission · Turtle
A blood choke from the front headlock in which his head and one arm are trapped together inside your arm, and his own shoulder closes one side of the neck. The moment is when his arm stays by his head. Shoot your arm under his neck in front of the throat and out through the armpit, clasp your hands over his back and pull the clasp to your chest. Then roll toward the trapped arm, shoulder to the mat and onto your back, so the clasp drags him over. Come onto your side and walk your legs toward his hips until your body is perpendicular to his, and squeeze the elbows. The roll does the work, not the arms. If he hides the arm, switch to the guillotine. The roll adds force: finish slowly.
How to do it
- From the front headlock, shoot your arm under their neck, in front of the throat, and out through the armpit, so their head and that arm are both inside your arm.
- Bring your other arm over their back and clasp your hands, then pull the clasp tight toward your chest to take out the slack.
- Roll toward the trapped arm: put that shoulder to the mat and roll under them onto your back, so your clasp drags them over with you.
- After the roll, come onto your side and walk your legs toward their hips, getting your body perpendicular to theirs to tighten the loop.
- Finish by squeezing your elbows together: their own trapped shoulder presses one side of the neck, your forearm the other.
Key details
- The roll does the work, not the arms: it turns them over the lock and jams their trapped shoulder into their neck.
- Thread the arm deep through the armpit: the head and the arm must both be inside before you roll.
- Walk your legs toward their hips after the roll: the angle of your body pulls the last slack out of the choke.
- After the roll, block his elbow with your top knee so he cannot widen the arm, walk your hand on his back toward his far lat and draw the choking elbow back to your hip.
Common mistakes
- Rolling away from the trapped arm. — Rolling away from the trapped arm pulls it out of the lock. — Roll toward the trapped arm so it stays pinned against the neck.
- A shallow arm through the armpit. — A shallow arm leaves the neck free after the roll. — Thread the arm deep through the armpit before rolling.
- Staying flat on your back after the roll, legs still. — Without walking the legs there is no angle, and the choke never tightens. — Come onto your side and walk your legs toward their hips.
If they defend
- They sit back. → Keep the grip and roll anyway: sitting helps the roll.
How to drill it
