S-Mount Armbar
Chain finish · Mount
An elbow lock: the straight arm is bent backward over your hips. From mount, slide one knee up beside his head and bring the other foot by his hip, the S-mount, keeping your weight on his chest during the switch. That shape alone isolates the near arm: the knee by his head and your chest leave it nowhere to go. Hug the arm to your chest, swing the leg over his head and sit back close to his shoulder. Pinch your knees on the arm, hold the wrist to your chest with the thumb up and extend the hips into the back of the elbow. Sit down far from the shoulder and the elbow slips out. If he turns away, take the back. Sit down slowly.
How to do it
- Slide one knee up next to their head and bring the other foot by their hip: S-mount, with your weight kept on their chest during the switch.
- Trap the near arm, hugging it to your chest; the knee right beside their head pins it in place.
- Keep the arm trapped and swing the leg over the head, then sit back close to their shoulder.
- Pinch your knees on the arm, hold the wrist to your chest with the thumb up and extend the hips into the back of the elbow.
Key details
- S-mount isolates the arm by itself: the knee by the head and your chest leave the arm nowhere to go.
- Knee by the head, the other foot by the hip: this shape keeps them from turning in either direction.
- Keep your weight on their chest during the switch, so they cannot escape while your legs move.
- Stay sitting on top as long as you can: knee deep in his armpit, weight on his solar plexus rather than his belly, leaning toward him with the back leg open for base. He must hold the arm and carry your weight at once.
Common mistakes
- Moving to S-mount with no weight. — Without your weight on them they escape during the switch. — Keep your chest heavy on theirs.
- Knee too low, by the shoulder or chest. — With the knee low the arm is not trapped and they pull it back. — Put the knee right beside their head to trap the arm.
- Letting go of the arm during the swing. — Once the arm is free they pull it back and escape. — Keep the arm trapped until you sit back.
- Falling back right away while he still holds his hands together. — On your back you lose your weight on him and are left fighting a strong grip from below. — Break the grip while still sitting on him; sit back once the arm comes off his body.
If they defend
- They clasp their hands together. → Break the grip with your leg and finish.
