Takedown · Judo Throws
A lifting hip throw with a belt grip from the grip fight standing to side control, for an opponent who bends forward but stays close. Keep the sleeve, reach your other arm over his arm and shoulder and take his belt at the back; pull the belt up and toward you so his weight rises onto his toes, which is the kuzushi. Step in and turn, knees well bent so your hips go lower than his and out past his far hip, then straighten the legs and lift with the belt hand while the sleeve hand pulls around your body: he rotates over your hip onto his back. Compared with the neighbours: o goshi wraps the arm under his armpit around the waist and has no belt lift, tsurikomi goshi lifts with the lapel grip into his armpit; tsuri goshi lifts by the belt. Over his arm is o tsuri goshi, under the arm is ko tsuri goshi. The common error is pulling the belt with the arm while the hips stay high: the legs lift him. If he leans back against the pull, ouchi gari; if he steps around your hip, harai goshi.
Uchikomi with the belt grip, 3 x 10: lift, turn in, load onto the hip without throwing. Then 5 throws each side onto crash mats.
Keep the sleeve so the partner can breakfall on the back. Practise falls (ukemi) before throws.
Pick a position, then select a technique to see its trigger and what it unlocks. Icon = type of move. Color bar: green position, navy move, red submission, black chained finish.
