Sweep · Half Guard
A back-roll sweep from half guard, named after Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro, used when he stops your knee shield sweep by driving his shoulder and head down to the mat and his weight forward over you. Keep his trapped leg locked in your half guard and hold his far sleeve or wrist. Instead of pushing back into him, roll backward over your shoulder, bringing your knees toward your head: the trapped leg is carried over with your legs and his forward weight follows it. Finish the roll and come up on top as he lands, still holding the leg until you settle. Opening the legs lets the leg drop out and he simply stays on top; rolling before his weight is forward only drags you under him. If he sits back out of the roll, wrestle up to the single leg; if he turns to his knees, you are on top of his turtle.
Partner drives the shoulder down against your knee shield on your count; Shaolin sweep, 6 each side, slowly at first.
Roll over your shoulder, never over the top of your neck, and start slowly with a partner who goes with the roll.
