Submission · Half Guard
A hip and groin stretch: his legs are pulled apart, loading the adductors, the hip joints and the lower back. It comes from the lockdown, in the electric chair, when he keeps the far leg planted to stop the sweep. The lockdown, your legs in a figure-four, stays tight on his near leg. Hug the far leg to your chest by the thigh near the knee, not at the ankle. Then extend your hips and legs, so the lockdown pushes the near leg one way and your body pulls the far leg the other. Both must work at once. He usually falls to his side into the electric chair sweep, or pushes your head away, which opens the old school sweep. A sharper-angle cousin of this stretch is called the crotch ripper. Stretch slowly: groin injuries give little warning, and the move is banned for kids under IBJJF rules.
From lockdown: electric chair entry, then the stretch to the point of pressure only, 5 each side; the partner taps at the first stretch.
Hip and groin injuries come without warning: stretch slowly. IBJJF: allowed for adults, banned for kids; check the event rules.
Pick a position, then select a technique to see its trigger and what it unlocks. Icon = type of move. Color bar: green position, navy move, red submission, black chained finish.
