Transition · Closed Guard
A rubber guard position from Eddie Bravo's 10th Planet system, the backup plan when Mission Control stalls: his trapped hand is on the mat and you hug his knee, but you cannot free the arm for the next attack. Let go of the wrist-to-ankle grip, come up, clear his head and neck to the side with that forearm, cut the arm back in and re-grip wrist to ankle — the hand under the ankle, not on the toes. That is the chill dog: the shin still across his back, his hand still on the mat, and you squeeze your knees together to hold him. It is a place to rest (you are "just chilling"), but its main use is the next step, the kung fu move: pull the ankle and leg in front of his face, swing the elbow out and over the foot keeping the palm on it, and come up into the omoplata. Loosening the knee squeeze while you re-grip lets him posture, and waiting too long gets you stuck. If he turns the shoulder away, go to the omoplata; if he pulls the arm free, catch the kimura.
From Mission Control get the hand to the mat, clear the neck to chill dog, then the kung fu move to the omoplata. 5 slow reps each side.
Rubber guard positions strain your own knee: warm up the hips and never force the leg.
Pick a position, then select a technique to see its trigger and what it unlocks. Icon = type of move. Color bar: green position, navy move, red submission, black chained finish.
