Back Take
Chain finish · Butterfly Guard
Follow the turn, insert your hooks and lock the seatbelt grip across the chest. Decide which arm will choke and lay it over the shoulder first — settling that before the hooks saves you from losing the choking side later in the scramble.
How to do it
- After the arm drag, keep the triceps grip and follow their turn, staying close to their side.
- Put your chest on their back first, with no space, then put the hooks in, heels inside the thighs and feet apart.
- Lock the seatbelt grip across the chest; decide which arm will choke and lay it over the shoulder first, the other arm under the armpit.
- Fall to the side of your lower arm, the one under their armpit, so their weight pins it and keeps your choking arm on top.
Key details
- No space between your chest and their back: through a gap they slide out.
- Chest first, hooks second.
- Fall to the side of your lower arm; falling to the other side frees their shoulder and loses the choking arm.
- A body lock with one of their arms inside is a safe way to hold the back first.
Common mistakes
- Hooks before chest contact. — Hooks without chest contact leave a gap, and they slide out through it. — Chest on the back first, then the hooks.
- Crossing the feet. — Crossed feet in front are easy to trap for a foot lock. — Keep the heels inside their thighs, feet apart.
- Choking before control. — While both hands go to the neck, nothing holds their body and they slip out. — Seatbelt and hooks first, then the choke.
How to drill it
Arm drag, back take, seatbelt, 8 reps each side; then 1 minute where the partner tries to turn in.
